Episode 090 - Best Picture 2015 - Spotlight
Thomas McCarthy rebounds from directing Adam Sandler's The Cobbler by co-writing and directing Spotlight, the story of the Boston Globe's investigation into sexual misconduct and cover ups within the Catholic church in the city of Boston. The movie, which features nearly every working actor in Hollywood, or so it seems, is a solid yarn set in dusty news rooms which may or may not exist anymore.
Listen to this episode to hear the guys discuss:
What they liked:
- The acting, particularly from Michael Keaton and a subdued Liev Schreiber
- The methodical, piece-by-piece assemblage of the facts
What they did not like:
- Rachel McAdams being given nearly nothing to do
- The lack of an antagonist or any danger
